Manager, Applications Development

Department: Global Information Systems - Applications
Location: Kitchener

The primary focus of this position is to provide supervision to a group who is responsible for developing and implementing information technology initiatives that support the strategic objectives of the corporation. The Manager will be accountable for analyzing and resolving production issues, developing solutions, testing, and implementing projects or initiatives to solve business problems, and enhancing business processes. This position provides specialized advice to assigned business leaders so that technology can be applied to solve operational and functional challenges or to create efficiency through automation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with user groups, develop credible recommendations for the optimal use of technology to suit the business requirements.
  • Build solutions that positively impact the ROI or profitability of the business, or whose cost impact is well-defined. Provide options, alternatives and innovative solutions.
  • Analyze user and process problems and design programs, applications, and reports to solve these problems.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to a global team of Programmers and Systems Analysts.
  • Analyze and create specifications documents and report designs for changes as needed, and work with the Programmers/Systems Analysts to ensure understanding and usability.
  • Interface with users to understand business and system issues currently being modified to ensure quality of design and end user satisfaction.
  • Research and learn new technologies and apply them to the current business need to reduce labor, improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Apprises senior IT management for project status, issues and concerns via regular reports and meetings.
  • Prepares job descriptions, identifies staffing needs, general direction, assigns specific tasks and responsibilities, evaluates and mentors staff.
  • Source, develop and manage quality external contacts with vendors, and suppliers in the industry as needed.
  • Willing to work outside of normal business hours as needed to address critical issues.
  • Some travel may be required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 8+ years of technical experience including 3+ years in a supervisory role.

  • Experience with design, development, integration, and implementation of web based applications using Microsoft.NET framework and C# (ASP.NET, ASP.NET MC).

  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint development (SharePoint 2013 or SharePoint Online experience is a plus).

  • Basic understanding of MS SQL Server database structure.

  • Familiarity with JavaScript, jQuery, Web Services, REST based services, JSON and AJAX techniques.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS, JD Edwards or Perceptive Content would be a plus.

  • Strong problem solving, innovation and analytical skills, with ability to deliver on schedule in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Management/leadership and project management skills.

  • Bachelorís degree in Business, Computer Science or related field preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
